North Shore Labor Council EDCON
The NSLC's 10th Annual Education Conference - Building Labor in 2008, Winning Back America and Building our Movement was held on Sunday, March 30th, at Breed Middle School in Lynn. The openingplenary on what issues will work for us in the 2008 election cycleincluded such speakers as President Jeff Crosby, Political Director Robert Bower of the Mass AFL-CIO and Ana Avandano from the Immigration dept of the national AFL-CIO. ^0 people from a variety of local unions and community groups turned out on a chilly, but sunny Sunday afternoon to join in and learn more about the challenges we face. Workshops on "Immigrant Workers and the Labor Movement" nad "Our Economic Agenda" were well attended and spirited in thier discussion. A great many ideas and suggestions flowed and will inform the council's strategy in the upcoming election cycle and beyond. One of the key points from this forum was the need to take up the task of defeating John McCain in the 2008 Presidential election. John McCain has proven to be a Bush clone in his policy votes and speeches and every union member must work to prevent another four years of neoliberal conservative practices in the white house.
