BLACK AND BROWN TOGETHER

In 1991, seeking to boost its never robust economy, the state of Mississippi passed a law permitting casino gambling. Guest workers, eventually numbering in the thousands, were brought under the H-2B program to fill many of the jobs the developments created.

The North Shore Labor Council is an umbrella organization made up of local unions and affiliated constituency groups founded upon the principles of building labor power through political action, mobilization, community involvement and union organizing.

Our affiliate members cover the working spectrum of sectors from service industry to manufacturing, from building trades to healthcare and all the private and municipal areas in between.
