Katie Cohen joined North Shore Labor Council this month as the new council organizer!
Born and raised in the hills of West Virginia, Katie grew up with a deep respect for the labor movement and collective action. There, she began organizing around economic and environmental justice issues. In 2008, she left home and eventually attended Brown University in Providence, RI, studying music and “development studies”, a major which enabled her to research and write about how people work for social change in Appalachia. After graduating, she hit the Big Apple and lived in Brooklyn for a few years. While she pursued music and worked odd-jobs, she continued to be drawn into social justice work, including a fights against wage theft and workplace discrimination at the bakery where she worked.
She decided to pursue organizing full-time and is thrilled to have found a new home here in the North Shore!
In the next few months, she can’t wait to meet folks at NSLC, find an apartment in Lynn, and discover the best North Shore beaches!
